Monday we hiked to our first waterfall in the southwest. To reach the trailhead we drove about 16 miles on a 4WD road. The drive took about an hour to go 16 miles because of rocks! Once at the trailhead the hike started by continuing up the dirt road about 1/3 mile before it turned into the woods. While hiking, Carol said she saw a sign that the gate closed at 4pm; so we picked up the pace to get to the falls and back to the car before the gate was shut. I never hiked so fast…it was about 1.5 miles to the falls and the hike was deceiving because you could hear and see rushing water the entire time, always thinking the falls would be just around the corner. We finally got to the falls and boy was it worth the fast hike! The water was so clear and it had the color of a glacier lake.
A middle aged couple asked if we would take their picture….I said sure…so they hugged and I took the picture….as I was about to hand the camera back, the guy said, “Oh, can you take one of us kissing?”…WTH, I did not sign up to take soft porn shots…they had to pose their kissing for several more pictures! We took our “PG” pictures and then had to get back to the truck by the time the gate was locked.
As we hiked back, a few people were just on their way to start the hike! Little did they know they were going to get locked in. We arrived back to the truck just before 4pm and hit the road to get out before getting locked in. As we drove out, a few more cars were headed up to the trailhead. Well, long story short, we never saw a sign stating that the gate was closing at 4pm!
The only wildlife that we saw on this scenic hike, a group of ants carrying very small dog treat!
Wow, looks refreshingly beautiful!
It was, considering we have been in the desert for 2 months!
Beautiful hike!!!
Thanks, it was special oasis in the desert!
