This past week we ventured out to Fonts Point, just about 8 miles from Borrego Springs. Last year we started up the sand wash to the Fonts Point but turned around, worried that we would get stuck in the deep sand.  Well….this year we had no fear!  The four mile sand wash no longer worried us as we now are so much more confident in our 4x4 skills!   When we started our trek there was nothing but blue skies and high puffy clouds….by the time we got to Fonts Point we encountered wind and there were rain clouds in…

The Borrego Springs Pumpkin Patch!

Last year while spending the winter in Borrego Springs, CA we heard about a special area call “The Pumpkin Patch”.  This area is deep in the Ocotillo Wells off-road recreation area.  We set out this past week thinking this would be a short 4x4 drive in the desert. Once in the 4x4 area we had to drive miles and miles through areas of deep sand and extreme bumps! Pikes Peak, Wow!

While in Colorado Springs, we drove to the top of Pikes Peak. Yes, we drove the Ford F-250 Diesel Truck (the workhorse).  It seems that human nature makes one more anxious and afraid when you are a passenger!  Carol drove up and I drove down; we both were unhinged when the passenger!!! 🤣.   When we arrived at the top, 14,115 ft above sea level, there was a new visitor center!  Construction was still going on in the parking lots but we were able to park and experience the beautiful surroundings. Hole in the Rock Overnight

Just outside of Escalante UT there is a road that is 58 miles long that makes it’s way to the Northwest side of Lake Powell; Hole in the Rock.  The road is a dirt road with the last 10 miles consisting of a true 4WD experience!  The trek took us past some amazing sights.  Chimney Rock, Dance Hall Rock and several slot canyon hikes….but our mission was to get to the end and see the famous “Hole in the Rock”.  Hole in the Rock is on the National Register of Historic Places.  In short, this was the passage of Mormon…
