Superstition Mountain Hike

Today we headed out to the Superstition Mountains in search of gold! 🤣 We hiked up the Treasure Loop Trail with a destination of the “Green Rock”. The whole time we were wondering how hilarious it would be if we found the gold mine….What we would do with a gold mine?  Given we are retired it was decided that we would have to sell it to the highest bidder. 🤣

Legend tells of the Lost Dutchman gold mine somewhere within the 160,000 acres of the Superstition Mountains. The gold mine and the mother lode is estimated to be worth $200 million!

We hiked on the Treasures Loop, Prospector View and Jacob’s Cross Cut Trails.  During this hike we had views of Lost Dutchman State Park as well as Mesa, AZ.  Totals for the hike were 3.5 miles with an elevation gain of 590’.

While in the Sedona area we bought a small geode and we decided that today when we returned from our hike we would break it open.  While hiking we were also looking for “geodes in the wild”.  After a couple miles we found what we thought was a geode!  We did not find the gold, but we have a second geode to crack open!

There is a short video of the breaking of the geodes….please excuse my vulgar mouth! 🤣

You got it opened!!! Robert and Liz are both geologist in Elko Nevada. The work for Barrick , Newmont , Nevada Mining, she is senior Geo for her deep mine and a Robert is a senior Geo in exploration.. if they weren’t expecting their 1st child and COVID wasn’t here you could tour the mine she works. We did it last year… under ground, Roberts is an open pit mine. Pretty darn wild to see the operations…
