Lake Havasu Area, AZ

Buckskin Mountain State Park, Bill Williams River Wildlife Refuge and Lake Havasu City!

Our last stop in Arizona was Buckskin Mountain State Park about 20 miles South of Lake Havasu City.  Buckskin Mountain SP sits on the Colorado River and it is a very different river than what flows through the Grand Canyon!  The river is flat with zero rapids! The state park is small, but we really enjoyed it; given we felt we had the best site in the park!

Just up the road, is the Bill Williams River Wildlife Refuge.  This area offers a short hike down a peninsula with all types of waterfowl. We saw White Pelicans, Egrets, American Kestrels, Loons, Goldeneyes and many more that we couldn’t identify. It was a real treat to see so many cool birds!

We also visited Lake Havasu City home of “London Bridge”!  Yes, the Bridge was brought over from London and rebuilt! See the attached short video of the story!

Next stop California!

Hadn’t thought about Lake Havasu for years – we used to drive over from Vegas in early spring during the mid-late 80s. I’m guessing there have been lots of changes since then! Onward with your adventures – and hope you paint some of those birds!

Lake Havasu was an interesting area. The vacation areas seemed just a bit dated but still was a fun place to visit. More soon!

What a great trip. Thank you for sharing your pictures and the commentary on each place you visit. Glad you are staying safe and I bet you are glad you are not on the east coast right now. We just had over 15 inches of snow on Wednesday! Enjoy and stay safe. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
