Palm Canyon Trail

Milestone: We have been on the road for 4 months!

Borrego Springs is located in the center of the Anza-Borrego State Park.  One of the most popular hikes is Palm Canyon. The hike takes you to the 3rd largest native palm grove in the state of California.

We were fortunate to be able to experience this hike and special palm oasis.  This palm grove had a devastating fire and the palm canopy was destroyed all that remained were tall black charred sticks.  Due to the fire the hike had been closed until last month when miraculously the palm canopy grew back on the burned trunks.

The hike itself was very interesting because the the terrain changed constantly from sand, rocks, ledges and huge piles of boulders.  On our way back we saw some hikers crouched down looking over a rock pile…naturally we had to find out what they were looking at! There was a bighorn sheep…we took pictures of it and we were so happy to have seen wildlife!  Then we continued and after we rounded a corner, there stood a whole herd of bighorns!  Carol captured a great video even though the sheep were jumping closer and closer to us, making us a bit nervous. (See video below pictures)

It was a great hike!  Highly recommend.

    Very cool video!
Does it seem like 4 months or is time passing quickly?
