This was inspired by a picture Carol saw from Instagram.  I like to draw/paint in the evenings and many times I don’t have anything that pops into my mind as a reference; that is when Carol finds me something!  Getting this scene in perspective was a real challenge; don’t look too close!

The Slot, Borrego Springs

The Slot is a narrow siltstone slot canyon near Borrego Springs, CA in the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.  We went to do this hike on New Years Day but the crowds were unmanageable.  We returned early one morning and we were the 2nd car in the lot!  There is a 3 mile dirt access road to get the The Slot.   We hiked counter clockwise that forced us up a deep sand road...it was daunting from the bottom looking up, but once we got to the top, it didn’t seem that bad....   The actual slot canyon is about a…

Metal Sculptures of Borrego Springs

Soon after we arrived in Borrego Springs we heard about the “sculptures”.  There are well over 100 life size or larger metal sculptures throughout the desert surrounding the town. We felt like we were on safari, hunting every one of them!  We spent 2 days, 3-4 hours each day and we went to every single one!The collection includes camels, sloths, llamas, wild horses, sabre  tooth tigers, mammoths, giant birds, wild pigs, sheep, tortoises and the famous dragon as well as many more!This all began in 2006 when the owner of the Galleta Meadows Estate, Dennis Avery, decided he really wanted…
