Big Bend National Park, Texas

After 3 days on the road we finally arrived at Big Bend.  The final 30 miles were very hairy, no map showed us that there was an 18% grade on the route from Presidio to Lajitas! The Tundra got us up the grade with the Airstream but it is nothing we would want to do again!

We stayed in Terlingua in the heart of the desert at Road Runner Travelers, a new RV campground.

Our first full day we drove the Maverick Road, a dirt road that took us to Santa Elena Canyon that had a hike up the Rio Grande River.  The hike was incredible due to the high rock walls and along the river.  We then traveled the Ross Maxwell Scenic drive through the park and the views were incredible and we saw wild horses!

Our 2nd day we drove to the eastern end of the national park stopping at Chisos Basin Visitor Center, Panther Junction and Rio Grande Village.  We then hiked the Boquillas Canyon.  This hike was beautiful, walking along side of the Rio Grande.  The Rio Grande separates Mexico from the United States but again…no walls in this area!

Our third day we visited the Big Bend Ranch State Park where the the 18% grade road is located.  Of course the Tundra went up with no issue (without the Airstream), we hiked the “hoodoos trail” and investigated an abandoned movie set.  We also got some drone video, but still do not have enough bandwidth to upload!

We left Big Bed this morning, we are now working towards Richmond staying south to avoid weather.  More soon!

Thought you were on the road for a year?!?
Richmond doesn’t qualify as an adventure🙄

We have to go back because the Condo sold, we will be in Richmond until 3/8 when it closes then back on the road. We have extended our plans….we ordered a bigger Airstream 25’ Flying Cloud (5’ longer) that arrives in August. So, yeah we are heading back but only to take care of the condo! Then we are free!
