Yesterday was another 10+ day! We met Paddle Lake Powell (a local service that rents kayaks) at 9am. This outfitter was the best…most outfitters meet you close to the end of a very steep and long boat ramp and you carry your kayak to the water. During normal times this would be no problem, but the water is at an all time low and falls below the end of the boat ramp!
As you see from the above picture, the water levels are dismal. Last fall when we were here the waterline was about 40’ up the ramp! All power boat ramps are closed except two, because of water levels. So, again, having the outfitter get the kayak to the water was a big deal!
Our paddle trip was approximately 6 miles round trip. We paddled about 3/4 mile in the main lake and then we turned into Antelope Canyon. This canyon has high walls and is simply beautiful. Our kayaks were a hybrid of sorts…you could paddle or you could peddle. Not like a paddle boat, but fins under the boat. https://www.hobie.com/kayaks/mirage-passport/
This kayak was so comfortable and easy to maneuver, it was amazing. The water was so clear; Carol saw some fish and we saw a few jump as we paddled. We reached the end of the canyon and you have the opportunity to hike about 2 miles into Lower Antelope slot canyon. We did not plan to hike because we never thought we would get to the end! So, we passed on the hike but felt a sense of accomplishment just getting to the end!
This was another memory worth a million…so glad we were able to do this before Lake Powell is just a bucket of water. We were told if the drought and climate change continues at this rate the dam will not be able to generate power. It is a dismal thought what would happen to this area if the lake keeps falling.
Enjoy the video!

The colors are stunning, the rocks and water and sky! How deep is the water? Love the last shot 😎
And all were untouched iPhone pictures or GoPro!
Beautiful opening shot! I realize that it’s hard to take a bad shot there but video was wonderful!
The “ending” nice also!😊 🥤 !
Thanks! Such a fun day and you are right, those were all iPhone pictures!
So Cool! Did a houseboat trip on Lake Powell many years ago. Slept on the top on night and just gazed at all the stars. I kinda forgot that there was even the Milky Way since you never see it here. But considering all the remote places you’ve been so far, bet you’ve see all kinds of stars! Yea for you all!
OMG…I would love to do a houseboat here. Yes, the stars and sky are amazing. Trying to learn how to do night photography!
