Today we took an online art class taught by an urban sketcher that we both like. We were most definitely outside of our comfort zone because this artist is a bit more loose and whimsical than Carol and I.
The artist that taught the class is Ian Fennelly @ianfennelly Ian Fennelly organized through Studio56
Ian’s style of sketching is self described as “Layers of Looking”. Very different from how we have been creating pen and watercolors. Ian’s layers consist of:
- Rough and loose pen sketch
- Refined pen sketch
- Add watercolor and not over the entire piece
- Let dry
- Add values with shades of gray brush pens
- 3 passes of detail with artist pens (similar to Pigma Micron pens)
Our project was creating a piece of Oatman Theatre on Rt. 66 in Arizona.
Below is Ian’s completed drawing and the 2 inspirational photos.
Below are our completed versions! Left is Carol’s, right is mine….we had a lot of fun creating these!
Pretty good. Although maybe you are working too hard at it. We’ve been very impressed by your previous works.
LOL! This was an entirely different process, love trying something new….
I know you do…my heros ( heroines???)
Keep up the adventures🥰
😀
Nice ladies. They both reflect the styles each of you have developed.
Fantastic ladies! Enjoying your posts!
Thanks! Glad you are following along!
