We explored the Bonneville Salt Flats and the Bonneville Speedway. Both of the above are on “salt flats” in western Utah. Here is a link to more about Bonneville Salt Flats .
This is not a commercial tourist area, it is in fact all on Bureau of Land Management Public land. Access is from the rest stop on I-80 West or from Exit 4 you can enter from the Speedway entrance. The flats are about 12 miles long…it is an amazing area.
The Speedway is an especially smooth flat area approx. 10 miles long where speed trials are conducted and is well known for Utah’s famed measured mile and the World Land Speed Record.
We drove out on the flats and we had the feeling we were on thick ice, but in fact we were on approx. salt 5ft thick! This was so worth the drive!
Enjoy the our video!
Travel Update:
We are heading to Flaming Gorge tomorrow for a tenting overnight!
We’ve been on that stretch of 80 many times. How far West did you go? Elko is our stop!! That’s we’re Nora is!
Isn’t it amazing it looks like snow! Did you have any racers? .
It was so fun! No racers, but I bet it is crazy when they do!
I so want to drive my GT350 at the flats, someday… it looks like there were a few folks out testing their car’s out there…I .liked the drone footage very kool and nicely done……so how fast did you go , that diesel isn’t made for top speed but I bet it was fun driving fast there…
Thanks…I am learning to fly the drone fairly well….getting easier every time!
We didn’t drive fast on the Salt Flats… you’ll have to do that in you GT350!
That looks so cool. The contrast of the white salt against the blue sky is so gorgeous. Love your videos!!!!
