Grand Teton National Park!

Three days in Grand Teton National Park did not disappoint!  Our drive from Ashton, ID was beautiful through lush green fields that took us to Teton Pass at an elevation of 8,432’ into Jackson Hole, WY.  After a short walk around the town we headed to the entrance of the national park.

Throughout our exploring we encountered all types of wildlife. Have you ever wondered how the park rangers show up so quickly when animals are visible from the road?  Most of the animals that frequent populated areas are “chipped” and “tracked” ; when an animal is getting close to the road rangers know, can respond for crowd control and keep the animals/people safe.  We found the rangers to be friendly and helpful to onlookers.

One of the grizzly bears we saw is named “Bear 399” and is 25 years old! This year Bear 399 has 4 cubs!  We were told that typically she stays fairly close to the road because that keeps her cubs safe from male bears.  The male bears will actually kill the cubs to enable them to mate with the females.  The ranger said that the males rarely come to populated areas!  Pretty smart….Bear 399!

We took an early morning float trip on the Snake River and our guide, Brian (who has been a raft guide for 12 years) told us about issues that the moose were having….ticks….one juvenile moose was found with over 50,000 ticks attached! Ticks are killing young moose and the proliferation of ticks has been attributed to climate change with hotter temperatures and lack of rain.

When we returned to the lodge, while parking we looked up and there was a fox, ready to pounce on some prey!  How amazing is that!

The big payoff, was watching a moose in a creek eating…so fun to see wildlife doing what they do in the wild!

Enjoy the video!
