We’re Back!
After a week of painfully pathetic internet and cell coverage, we finally are in Rifle, Colorado at the Public Library with high speed internet! We have lots to catch up on, more in the updates below…now for the good stuff….
Maroon Bells
Yesterday we got up at 5:45am and drove 1 hour and 40 minutes to the west side of Aspen to catch the shuttle to Maroon Bells. The Maroon Bells are two peaks in the Elk Mountains, Maroon Peak and North Maroon Peak, separated by about half a kilometer (one-third of a mile). Both peaks are fourteeners. Maroon Peak, at 14,163 feet, is the 27th highest peak in Colorado. North Maroon Peak, at 14,019 feet, is the 50th highest. The view of the Maroon Bells to the southwest from the Maroon Creek valley is very heavily photographed, especially due to the mountains reflection in Maroon Lake. The peaks are located in the Maroon Bells–Snowmass Wilderness of White River National Forest.
Susan said that this area was the 2nd most beautiful area she has ever seen…2nd to the Grand Canyon. Our video and pictures just can’t describe the beauty of Maroon Bells. The weather was perfect at about 75 degrees, bright sun and void of any clouds! The area is filled with mesmerizing aspen trees and wild flowers. (Carol and I have tried to visit Maroon Bells several times in the past but could not obtain shuttle tickets.)
Enjoy the video!

Maroon Bells!!!❤️❤️❤️ I’ve got a story about there🙄
Awesome video!
Thanks!!!! Can’t wait to hear the story!
You must come back in at least a month to see the Aspen turn golden. The Rockies are stunning in the fall. If I may I’d like to invite you to take a road less traveled, at least put it on your list of places to visit. Depending upon your route to Utah you might pass the entrance to the Unaweep Tabeguache Scenic By-way as you approach Grand Junction on Route 50. You will go through an area where we lived in a Union Carbide company town, now a ghost town, named Uravan. At Gateway, you’d be almost 20 miles as the crow flies from Moab in the same kind of slick rock country. The route will take you through the West End of Montrose County, toward Telluride and Ouray. From Placeville to Ouray you’ll go over the Dallas Divide, the most beautiful spot in Colorado, and Ralph Lauren’s ranch. Stop in Naturita at the Rimrocker’s museum to learn more about Uravan.https://www.codot.gov/travel/colorado-byways/southwest/unaweep-tabeguache
Thanks! We are on a tight schedule this round…but I sure would like to see Uravan! As you know I am from a Carbide family too! We will be back next spring.
Looks like a lot of fun hiking! Love the hats!!
Thanks! It was a really fun day…wish you were here!
Breathtaking! Thank you for sharing your journey with us!
