Returning to Asbury Park, NJ!

While in New Jersey, we were just 20 minutes from a seaside town that my family frequented when I was very little….Asbury Park.  As a child my parents would go for Sunday “rides” and many times our destination would be the jersey shore.  I have not been to this area for 55 years!

I remember walking the boardwalk in Asbury Park and eating clam strips at Howard Johnsons!  I also have a memory of riding children’s rides at Palace Amusements…and eating salt water taffy!  Palace Amusements closed in 1988 as it was in disrepair.  (I remember riding the below ride when I was about 4 years old!)

In the 80’s and 90’s Asbury Park fell into total depression…many buildings had to be torn down and the boardwalk also needed desperate repair.  In about 2010 the area began a revitalization; the boardwalk was rebuilt and the historic Convention Center was getting needed renovations.

Nothing stays the same! Walking on the boardwalk knocked the cobwebs off many fond memories of the jersey shore and my childhood living in Westfield NJ.

Enjoy the video!

Wednesday we will finally leave Richmond, heading West with a destination of Tucson for a short Airstream Rally at Catalina State Park!  We will then head North of Phoenix for a few weeks.

Stand by for more!

Wow!! Seemed like a ghost town. Memory lane for sure!

When I was a kid, Asbury Park was a busy, attractive beach town with such a cool area for rides! It did bring back some lost childhood memories.

I bet that WAS a trip down memory lane for you Colleen. So glad to got to revisit… and to think you got to also visit the “famous” Becky Tate! Hehe, I need your autograph now Revy! 😉

It was surreal at Asbury Park….it was so lively and nice….no like a ghost town on the waterfront. The “famous” Becky Tate hasn’t changed after 40 years!

Did you see the Stone Pony? That’s how
I heard of Asbury Park. Whenever I would hear of it I would think of the Pony and Bruce Springsteen. Now I will think of little Colleen too. Looks pretty quiet there!

Yes! We did see the Stone Pony! I have a picture but somehow it did not get into the video!
