After leaving the California Coast we headed East to Sequoia National Park. The park suffered last year from the KNP Complex Fire and many areas were closed for months.
The firefighters actually wrapped General Sherman and many other sequoias with aluminum fire resistant blankets to protect them from the fires. As many as 2,300 giant sequoias burned to death or are expected to die as a result from the fire. This fire was caused by a severe lightning storm. Unfortunately many roads were closed from the fire or from a recent snow storm.
There was still some snow and there was to be another storm dumping several inches of snow. We were lucky to have two days in the park before more snow! And….we saw a bear!
Enjoy the video!
