After departing Utah our next stop was Durango, CO. We met up with our Airstream Club, Four Corners Unit for a casual rally.
Our 1st day a group from the rally headed to the river for a 4 hour raft ride of the Animas River through Durango. There were some decent rapids and we had a ton of fun!
Our next adventure, Carol and I did an overnight to Ouray, CO and our first stop was the Old Hundred Gold Mine Tour. The Old Hundred Gold Mine Tour is a guided mine tour that takes you 1/3 mile into the heart of 13,000 foot Galena Mountain where you can follow the vein and see real mining equipment in action!
The mine was named after the 100th Psalm in the bible. The mine was founded by the Niegold brothers in 1872 and by June they filed a claim. The mine changed ownership many times and closed in 1973 and most of the buildings were torn down and equipment sold.
This is a must see!
Next week, an epic jeep tour in the San Juan Mountains!
Enjoy the video!
Travel update:
We are working our way North and will be spending time in Glacier National Park…then on to the Canadian Rockies! We will be in the Canadian Rockies for the Month of August with our Phoenix friends Debbie and Joni!
Honey pot, almost dead guide in the Mine from his machine almost flipping him off the cart, another adventure’ the rafting and water flinging, looks like you all had a bunch of fun, have safe travels to Canada and beyond
Yeah for Fun days! Great video…the music you dubbed for the mine scenes is so ominously and eerily appropriate. Very cool.
Thanks! The raft and mine tour was really fun. The mine tour felt so authentic! Next week you will love the scenery of the San Juan Mountains!
Fun days!! The raft trip looked like just the right amount of excitement. You did a great job of capturing the interior of the mine and good choice of music. Hope you didn’t have to use that honey pot!!
You are right, the raft ride had just enough excitement! The mine tour was so cool and interesting! Also….I did look in the “honey pot” 🤣
