Moab, UT for 3 Days of Off-Road Excitement in a 4WD Vehicle!

In this video we rented a 4WD Toyota 4Runner from EXOverland in Moab. Our adventure started on the epic Shafer Trail in Canyonlands.

Day One:

The Shafer Trail at the Island in the Sky district of Canyonlands National Park is an iconic road that descends 1,500 feet (457 m) through a colorful, massive sandstone cliff. Its function has changed through the years; from a route made by Native Americans to access resources on the mesa top, to a trail for sheep herders moving flocks to better foraging in winter time, and then a road for trucks moving loads of uranium from the backcountry to market. Today, the Shafer Trail is a challenging, unpaved backcountry road for recreational users seeking the experience of a lifetime.

We ended the day at Horsethief Campground.

Day Two:

Back down Shafer Trail to White Rim Trail. The 100-mile White Rim Road loops around and below the Island in the Sky mesa top and provides expansive views of the surrounding area. Four-wheel-drive trips usually take two to three days, and mountain bike trips usually take three to four days. Under favorable weather conditions, the White Rim Road is moderately difficult for high-clearance, four-wheel-drive vehicles. The steep, exposed sections of the Shafer Trail, Lathrop Canyon Road, Murphy Hogback, Hardscrabble Hill, and the Mineral Bottom switchbacks make the White Rim loop a challenging mountain bike ride, and require extreme caution for both vehicles and bikes during periods of inclement weather. During high water conditions on the Green River, sections of road on the west side can flood, making a complete loop impossible. We ended the day at a perfect BLM campsite off Mineral Canyon Road. This was a stunning location for a great evening!

Day Three:

Day Three:

We headed out to Gemini Bridges on the Gemini Bridges Road. Another 4WD road with incredible rock formations. The beginning of the road was mild but after the “bridges” the road became significantly more challenging. After our last couple hours of off road fun, it was time to turn in our rental.
