We have read many reviews that City of Rocks State Park is a must see while in New Mexico. To get to City of Rocks the drive is through typical desert land with a few rolling hills of desert. We crested one of these hills and in the distance saw City of Rocks, sitting in the middle of a vast desert plain! It was mesmerizing!
We stayed 4 days at City of Rocks and loved it because each site is unique and very private from other RVs/campers. Each site is nestled among the rocks that make up the state park. There are 10 RV spots with hookups but the most interesting sites are 1-45 and are “dry” sites without any hookups. We were at site 2 and it was perfect for us. We were able to drive right in, unhook without any maneuvering! Because this site did not have hookups we filled up our water tank before we arrived. We depended on our lithium batteries to provide us with lights and to keep the refrigerator running. To keep our batteries charged we have a 90 watt solar panel on the roof and a portable 270 watt Zamp solar panel that plugs into the RV by the battery box. At night if cold, the propane furnace kept us toasty! We are pleased to report, the solar kept the batteries rocking the entire 4 days, even with our dish satellite running for several hours at night! (We do have tandem honda generators to augment if cloudy).
We hiked among the rocks and some are 40’-60’ tall! Carol said she felt like one of the “Flintstones”!!! The state park is a must see and we highly recommend!
Enjoy the pictures!

Hope you go to Chinle AZ to see Canyon de Chelly, the spiritual center of the Navajo nation. You’re close and it’s worth seeing
