Metal Sculptures of Borrego Springs

Soon after we arrived in Borrego Springs we heard about the “sculptures”.  There are well over 100 life size or larger metal sculptures throughout the desert surrounding the town. We felt like we were on safari, hunting every one of them!  We spent 2 days, 3-4 hours each day and we went to every single one!The collection includes camels, sloths, llamas, wild horses, sabre  tooth tigers, mammoths, giant birds, wild pigs, sheep, tortoises and the famous dragon as well as many more!This all began in 2006 when the owner of the Galleta Meadows Estate, Dennis Avery, decided he really wanted…

Palm Canyon Trail

Milestone: We have been on the road for 4 months!Borrego Springs is located in the center of the Anza-Borrego State Park.  One of the most popular hikes is Palm Canyon. The hike takes you to the 3rd largest native palm grove in the state of California.  We were fortunate to be able to experience this hike and special palm oasis.  This palm grove had a devastating fire and the palm canopy was destroyed all that remained were tall black charred sticks.  Due to the fire the hike had been closed until last month when miraculously the palm canopy grew back…

Christmas in Borrego Springs

Today we prepared for our Christmas.  If you know Carol “Christmas is her favorite time of year”!  Carol’s birthday is Christmas Day so there is double joy!   We spent the Christmas Eve morning shopping at our little local store and because it was cloudy, we polished the outside of the Airstream!   Every year at home, we make an enormous amount of Christmas cookies.  We had to try to make them in the Airstream.  It has been a challenge because we only have a convection oven in the microwave....but where there is a will there is a way!  We…
