Oklahoma! Natural Falls State Park

We arrived in Oklahoma today and were pleasantly surprised to see the sun!  We are at Natural Falls State Park for one night.  This is a small park but the falls are very special.  The park has quite a history, dating back to the 1830s when the region was designated as the Cherokee Nation during the Indian Removal Act of 1830 (also known as the Trail of Tears, when the Cherokee were forced to relocate to the west). Petit Jean State Park, Arkansas

We arrived at Petit Jean State Park yesterday.  This is a gorgeous state park, huge sites and on a lake.  The park is located between the Ozark and Ouachita mountain ranges. The mountain received its name from the legend of Petit Jean a story of a French girl that disguised herself as a boy and secretly accompanied her sweetheart, a sailor, to America. Hawn State Park

Where we are…MO

Today we are at Hawn State Park in Ste. Genevieve, MO.  We have been here for 2 days and have finally relaxed from last week!  We have been hiking, exploring and just hanging out. Tomorrow we are heading to Arkansas for a few days as we continue west to Colorado.Prior to Hawn SP we stayed at SkyDive Chicago in Ottawa IL.  It was the largest skydiving operation we have ever seen! Some history of Ottawa, IL.

Today marks our first completed week of our adventure.  During this week, we had some obligations as well as some fine tuning of some logistics.  We spent Thursday and Friday in Ottawa, Il.  The main reason to visit Ottawa, IL was to deliver my mother’s ashes to be buried next to my father in Oakwood Memorial Park.  It was sad, but we felt good having completed my mother’s wishes.  Also while in Ottawa, we toured the town and I gave Carol a history lesson of the good and the bad.  So many of the places I loved as a child,…
