Flaming Gorge Overnight

Every now and then we find a remote area that may be best explored without the Airstream.  This week we took an overnight side trip to Flaming Gorge on the Wyoming, Utah border.  From Heber City we drove West on I-80.  Our campground was on the Southwest side of Lake Flaming Gorge.   Several Antelope meandered through the campground, amazing!  Once set up we toured and explored to find Red Canyon and Flaming Gorge Dam.  This area is known for spectacular trout fishing…we were not prepared, I left all the fly fishing equipment at the Airstream; really dumb move. The Bonneville Salt Flats

We explored the Bonneville Salt Flats and the Bonneville Speedway.  Both of the above are on “salt flats” in western Utah.  Here is a link to more about Bonneville Salt Flats .This is not a commercial tourist area, it is in fact all on Bureau of Land Management Public land.  Access is from the rest stop on I-80 West or from Exit 4 you can enter from the Speedway entrance.  The flats are about 12 miles long…it is an amazing area.  The Speedway is an especially smooth flat area approx. 10 miles long where speed trials are conducted and is well known…

Epic Adventures 4×4, Hell’s Revenge

Several weeks ago, we booked a 4x4 Sunset tour of Hell’s Revenge with Epic 4x4 Adventures. While in Moab the temperatures were extremely high, 109-111!  We were tempted to leave and head North except that we had these reservations with Epic.  Our tour was from 6pm-9:30pm on a 4x4 trail called, Hell’s Revenge.  Hell’s Revenge is in the Sand Flats Recreation Area and is listed as a difficulty 6 of 1-10.  Our training was on a 4x4 trail “Fins & Things”  We had a guide, Jason and there were 3 buggies in our group.  Carol and I were in Buggie…
