Alamo Lake State Park

When we left Organ Pipe National Monument we headed to Alamo Lake State Park.  The park features a 26 sq. mile lake, wild burros and many, many quail!   The road to the park is over 30 miles from the main road!  There are lots of exploring opportunities at this park and you are able to get off the beaten path on dirt roads through BLM land.  We were able to fly the drone on some dirt roads to get shots of the lake.   We saw our first wild burros on the road from the visitor center!  The burros…

Las Vegas Chores

Today we departed Las Vegas after being there since Sunday Afternoon.  We stayed west of Las Vegas at Red Rock Canyon. Our visit to Las Vegas was not for gambling, shows or all night parties!  We had an appointment Monday at Airstream of Las Vegas to have some warranty work done; failing water pump, a broken deadbolt door lock and a routine tire rotation.  We were very impressed with this Airstream dealer, all issues were done in one day as promised! Canyonlands, Boondocking and More

We have been off the grid for several days...no power, water or cell service (except occasionally when driving)!  We have been exploring Monument Valley, Needles area of Canyonlands National Park and Natural Bridge National Monument.  At our last campground, Needles Outpost, when we were checking in, Carol asked if there were any dangers with regards to animals...the owner said, “nay, there is a badger in one of the sites and scorpions but nothing to worry about”!  Well Carol’s head snapped around and I thought we were going to have to leave, but the owner put her mind at ease by…

Some history of Ottawa, IL.

Today marks our first completed week of our adventure.  During this week, we had some obligations as well as some fine tuning of some logistics.  We spent Thursday and Friday in Ottawa, Il.  The main reason to visit Ottawa, IL was to deliver my mother’s ashes to be buried next to my father in Oakwood Memorial Park.  It was sad, but we felt good having completed my mother’s wishes.  Also while in Ottawa, we toured the town and I gave Carol a history lesson of the good and the bad.  So many of the places I loved as a child,…
