Lake Havasu Area, AZ

Buckskin Mountain State Park, Bill Williams River Wildlife Refuge and Lake Havasu City! Our last stop in Arizona was Buckskin Mountain State Park about 20 miles South of Lake Havasu City.  Buckskin Mountain SP sits on the Colorado River and it is a very different river than what flows through the Grand Canyon!  The river is flat with zero rapids! The state park is small, but we really enjoyed it; given we felt we had the best site in the park! Alamo Lake State Park

When we left Organ Pipe National Monument we headed to Alamo Lake State Park.  The park features a 26 sq. mile lake, wild burros and many, many quail!   The road to the park is over 30 miles from the main road!  There are lots of exploring opportunities at this park and you are able to get off the beaten path on dirt roads through BLM land.  We were able to fly the drone on some dirt roads to get shots of the lake.   We saw our first wild burros on the road from the visitor center!  The burros…

Organ Pipe National Monument

Over the last 2 days we have been at Organ Pipe National Monument.  The feature picture is an organ pipe cactus.  The park is located just 5 miles from the Mexican boarder.  The campground is very nice but no hookups.  That is fine for us, we are self contained and have solar panels to keep our batteries charged.   Yesterday we hiked the Victorian Mine Trail a 4.9 mile hike through the Sonoran Desert with an abandoned silver mine at the 2.5 miles in. Our highlight of wildlife, a javelina walked through our campsite and our trail camera captured it!…

Lost Dutchman State Park – Review

Milestone 11/22/20: 3 Months on our journey! When we left the Sedona area we were a bit down, because we loved being there so much, but then we hated leaving most everywhere we have been!  At Lost Dutchman we loved the campground/campsite (#27)!  The campsites are spread out so you are not looking onto another site and most sites have a clear view of the Superstition Mountains.  At our specific site we had a clear shot of the mountains and had cocktails every night to watch the spectacular changes during the sunset.  We also were dazzled by the wildlife!  We were…
