Part One of Death Valley! We spent an adventure filled week in Death Valley!  Death Valley National Park is the largest national park in the lower 48.  Who knew there was so much to do and see!  Death Valley is so diverse with snow capped mountains, desert dunes, painted landscapes, waterfalls and many canyons! The first two days we had high winds with gusts up to 50 mph!  Due to the wind, we could barely see the mountains from the sand in the air! Desert to Mountains, Palm Springs Aerial Tram!

Wednesday we left Borrego Springs and drove up to Palm Springs to the Palm Springs Aerial Tram.  This Tramway is considered an engineering marvel featuring the world’s largest rotating tram cars! Valley station starts the adventure with the elevation of 2,643’ and your destination at Mountain station has an elevation of 8,516’. Mountain station has 2 restaurants (one self-serve) and one cocktail bar.  The Mount San Jacinto State Park is just behind the tram station providing backpacking and hiking opportunities.  The temperature change from Palm Springs to Mountain Station is 30-40 degrees!  There was still several inches of snow on…

The Borrego Springs Pumpkin Patch!

Last year while spending the winter in Borrego Springs, CA we heard about a special area call “The Pumpkin Patch”.  This area is deep in the Ocotillo Wells off-road recreation area.  We set out this past week thinking this would be a short 4x4 drive in the desert. Once in the 4x4 area we had to drive miles and miles through areas of deep sand and extreme bumps! A day at a Wind Farm!

While in Palm Springs we did a self driving tour at Palm Springs Windmill Tours. The tour starts at the Tour Center with exhibits and a video that showcase the history of the first Southern California wind farm established in 1982. After you explore the exhibits, you are on your way to see 10 marked stops with curated audio and an app! Also included are two stops close to active Wind Turbines that reach over 400 feet tall!
