Metal Sculptures of Borrego Springs

Soon after we arrived in Borrego Springs we heard about the “sculptures”.  There are well over 100 life size or larger metal sculptures throughout the desert surrounding the town. We felt like we were on safari, hunting every one of them!  We spent 2 days, 3-4 hours each day and we went to every single one!The collection includes camels, sloths, llamas, wild horses, sabre  tooth tigers, mammoths, giant birds, wild pigs, sheep, tortoises and the famous dragon as well as many more! This all began in 2006 when the owner of the Galleta Meadows Estate, Dennis Avery, decided he really wanted…

Palm Canyon Trail

Milestone: We have been on the road for 4 months!Borrego Springs is located in the center of the Anza-Borrego State Park.  One of the most popular hikes is Palm Canyon. Lake Havasu Area, AZ

Buckskin Mountain State Park, Bill Williams River Wildlife Refuge and Lake Havasu City! Our last stop in Arizona was Buckskin Mountain State Park about 20 miles South of Lake Havasu City.  Buckskin Mountain SP sits on the Colorado River and it is a very different river than what flows through the Grand Canyon!  The river is flat with zero rapids! The state park is small, but we really enjoyed it; given we felt we had the best site in the park! Just up the road, is the Bill Williams River Wildlife Refuge.  This area offers a short hike down a…
