The Slot is a narrow siltstone slot canyon near Borrego Springs, CA in the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.  We went to do this hike on New Years Day but the crowds were unmanageable.  We returned early one morning and we were the 2nd car in the lot!  There is a 3 mile dirt access road to get the The Slot.   We hiked counter clockwise that forced us up a deep sand road...it was daunting from the bottom looking up, but once we got to the top, it didn’t seem that bad....   The actual slot canyon is about a…

Metal Sculptures of Borrego Springs

Soon after we arrived in Borrego Springs we heard about the “sculptures”.  There are well over 100 life size or larger metal sculptures throughout the desert surrounding the town. Milestone: We have been on the road for 4 months!Borrego Springs is located in the center of the Anza-Borrego State Park.  One of the most popular hikes is Palm Canyon. The hike takes you to the 3rd largest native palm grove in the state of California.  We were fortunate to be able to experience this hike and special palm oasis.  This palm grove had a devastating fire and the palm canopy was destroyed all that remained were tall black charred sticks.  Due to the fire the hike had been closed until last month when miraculously the palm canopy grew back…

Arrived, Borrego Springs, CA

We have arrived in Borrego Springs, California!  Borrego Springs is a small desert town between San Diego and Palm Springs.  We are a minimum of at least 30 minutes from the next town.  Borrego Springs sits in the center of Anzo-Borrego Desert State Park.   Borrego Springs has one of the lowest COVID rates in California and for that we are glad!The center of the town is Christmas Circle, a large traffic circle.   Every Friday there is a small farmers market in the circle consisting of fresh vegetables, crafts and homemade foods.  Last Friday we rode our bikes to…
