Capitol Reef National Park

It has been a busy and beautiful couple of days!  On Tuesday 9/22 we left Green River State Park and drove to Hanksville UT and stayed at Duke's Slickrock RV Park that was centered between Capitol Reef NP and Goblins Valley State Park.  Capitol Reef - This park is the least visited of the 5 Utah national parks.  There is no lodge and very few hotels in the area. Capitol Reef became a national monument in 1937 and a national park in 1971.  The populated area of the park is named Fruita Historic District and includes the Petroglyph Panel, Visitor Center…

Arches, Canyonlands, Dead Horse Point

The beauty of the last few days is unimaginable.  We have made a base at Green River State Park.  Thursday we spent at Arches NP, Canyonlands NP and Dead Horse Point SP.  Arches is amazing and photos just can’t capture the vast size and colors of the landscape!  We had high hopes to hike to “Delicate  Arch” but it was so crowded, COVID-19 precaution won and we passed.  Many of the Arches are named by the park service or others, but we created some pretty unique names “old lady in chaise lounge”, “turtles kissing” and some that I better not…

When the Civil War started, the tribe became divided and non-Indians began moving into the area illegally. In fact, this section of…
