Chimney Rock Trail Adventure: Capitol Reef National Park

This week we hike to Chimney Rock in Capitol Reef National Park.Chimney Rock towers 300 feet above the highway. This is a 3.6 mile hike and is rated strenuous. This trail ascends on an easy grade for about a quarter of a mile then it climbs steep switchbacks. The views along the way are amazing! The trail continues to ascend on moderately steep grades until it reaches the top of the mesa where We enjoyed stunning views of Chimney Rock with snow capped mountains in the distance.Capitol Reef’s Waterpocket Fold is the defining geologic feature of this majestic national park.…

Alcoholic Pass: Our most challenging hike in Borrego Springs!

This week we take you on our most challenging hike in Anza Borrego State Park, Alcoholic Pass! This is a 2-4 mile hike depending on how far you go with a 740’ elevation gain. This hike is rocky and steep but had stunning views of the Borrego Valley and Coyote Canyon!The trail was originally used by Cahullia people as a shortcut between Coyote Canyon and their village near Clark Dry Lake.  The women used this route to carry heavy loads of seeds, buds, and blossoms that they harvested in Desert Gardens and the men used this trail to get to…

”The Slot” in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park!
