Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum

Yesterday we toured the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum adjacent to Saguaro National Park.  The concept of the museum is to allow visitors to see the nature of the desert in a natural setting.   The museum consists of several buildings that include live habitats for reptiles, butterflies, hummingbirds as well as a vast area of a desert zoo.  We headed to the reptile building and saw the local rattlesnakes (so we can identify them to the medics when we are attacked by one hiking), but quickly left because this building was also a Covid incubator!  We then went to the outdoor…

Our Search for Wild Horses

Yesterday we headed out very early in search of wild horses at Salt Creek River near Lost Dutchman State Park.  We were prepared to  fail as we took fishing equipment as well as art work to spend the day at the river.   There are about 5 areas of Salt Creek that you can get to the river to see the horses.  We started at Granite Reef Recreation area...nothing but horse poop!  We continued to Coon Bluff Recreation area...no horses but plenty of horse poop.  So we decided to try fishing...first we fly fished, great fun, but no fish and…

Bighorn Sheep

California Condors, Wow!

On Friday we drove a 40 mile dirt road near Kanab, UT and came across a California Condor viewpoint.  While there we met a guy that works for the Peregrine Fund, saving the California Condors.  While there we did see them on the cliffs, but they were really far away.  Our new friend said that we needed to go to the Navajo Bridge in the morning to see them up close. So, today we drove early to the Navajo Bridge...holy cow...the condors were everywhere!  The California Condor is one of the rarest birds in the world.
