Our Search for Wild Horses

Yesterday we headed out very early in search of wild horses at Salt Creek River near Lost Dutchman State Park.  We were prepared to  fail as we took fishing equipment as well as art work to spend the day at the river.

There are about 5 areas of Salt Creek that you can get to the river to see the horses.  We started at Granite Reef Recreation area…nothing but horse poop!  We continued to Coon Bluff Recreation area…no horses but plenty of horse poop.  So we decided to try fishing…first we fly fished, great fun, but no fish and still no horses.  We packed up and continued on our search.  We went to Phon D Sutton Recreation area….still nothing but horse poop….we were getting ready to leave when a woman noticed our Virginia license plate stating she was from Richmond.  Near the end of the conversation, Carol asked if the woman ever saw the wild horses…..she said, “All the time!”.  She told us to follow the river and we would see a bunch!  We grabbed the cameras and headed up river.  About 5 minutes into the walk, BOOM, 3 horses!  We then went back to the Coon Bluff for lunch and flew the drone….BOOM, 5 more horses!  We were so happy that we got to see the horses…then on the ride out, BOOM right in the river on the side of the road were 8 more horses just hanging out!

Some days are just amazing….this was one of them!  Enjoy the pictures and the video (drone video) we put together of this very special day.

Wow, very cool! I love your drone videos. So great that you have the equipment and talent to get those. I wonder how the horses get enough to eat? I hope and assume that they do! Continue to have fun!

Thanks! It has taken some time to get over the tree crash of the drone! None of the horses we saw looked frail or hungry, they actually looked chubby! 😉 Anyway, we are sure enjoying this trip…I know you would love it…think about renting a small RV and joining up!!!!
