While in Colorado Springs, we drove to the top of Pikes Peak. Yes, we drove the Ford F-250 Diesel Truck (the workhorse). It seems that human nature makes one more anxious and afraid when you are a passenger! Carol drove up and I drove down; we both were unhinged when the passenger!!! 🤣.
When we arrived at the top, 14,115 ft above sea level, there was a new visitor center! Construction was still going on in the parking lots but we were able to park and experience the beautiful surroundings. At this elevation the air is truly thin and at times we did feel light headed! 😳 If you are not up to the long drive, you can take the “Pikes Peak Cog Railway” to the top.
In the visitor center they sell doughnuts that they make at 14,000 ft. Typically dough does not rise at that elevation and baking is nearly impossible, so it is a “thing” they do. Of course we had to get one…they were actually very good!
It was a fun trip and from there we went in search of “Rocky Mountain Oysters”….that story is for another time….just know we did not find them…thank goodness!
Travel update:
Carol and I are in the Richmond Area…still awaiting a firm date for the arrival of the new Airstream. We have had to move around a bit because we had not made a lot of reservations. We did take a very short trip over to WV and visited some dear friends; we had such a good time! 🙏
Next week starts all of the annual doctor appointments!
Enjoy the video!
It was nice to see this video, Because I would have been hiding in back of camper as you drove. LOL
Relax and enjoy being home.
