Alabama Hills! And a near mishap with the Airstream!

After Yosemite we headed to the Alabama Hills in Lone Pine, CA! We had reservations at the Whitney Portal Campground. Well, that’s all I am going to say about that…you will have to watch the video for the full story!

The Alabama Hills is located near Lone Pine, CA and sits at the base of Mt. Whitney, the tallest mountain in the lower 48.  The Alabama Hills is BLM land and made up of interesting boulders and rock formations.  There are also arches of every size and shape!  We found about 15!

Another fact about the Alabama Hills there were over 400 movies created here.  The Museum of Western Film History is located in Lone Pine.  https://www.lpmuseum.org/

This museum is a must see, filled with movie memorabilia with cars, clothes, movie posters and a movie about the movie industry in Lone Pine.  This was a real treat!

Enjoy the video!

Travel Update:

We have left California and are now in Utah with a short stay in Nevada (Las Vegas area).

We will be in Utah for several weeks and then we head to Durango, CO for an Airstream meetup.  We then will head to Glacier National Park and beyond.  August will be in the Canadian Rockies!

Stay tuned and remember, new videos every Sunday!

Someone should have videoed that turn around 😁

Fortunately we didn’t take the RV up with us when we checked it out so the turn around was only with the truck, which was fine. Just glad we didn’t head up with the RV (that would have been a video by itself!).

The views you all find’ are amazing, glad to hear the Rv is okay and might want to get the Garmin 890 RV GPS unit as it suppose to keep you out of a pickle situation, a bit pricey but worth it for its help on things like tight roads , also has live updates with the App that links thru your phone to provide those updates as your driving along to warn of traffic and give new routes for road issues live.

Enjoyed the vid glad to hear your okay – RV is Okay, another smile was born this morning from you all and so glad to be a part of your adventures

Thank goodness for Carol’s sister. That would have been quite a situation. What a great place this is, can just imagine a western shoot out among those rocks!

I know! I don’t know what we would have done if we took the RV up there. Regardless, Alabama Hills is a really cool place….so fun looking for little arches!
