Page Arizona, Beyond Antelope | Rattlesnake & Owl Canyons!

On this visit, we explored Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and Lake Powell, stayed at our favorite Wahweap RV & Campground, enjoyed the spectacular views from the Wahweap Grille, visited Glen Canyon Dam, played disc golf at Red Mesa Rim, and—most importantly—went beyond the famous Antelope Canyons.

This time, we explored two lesser-known slot canyons with Black Streak Canyon Tours: Rattlesnake Canyon and Owl Slot Canyon. And what an experience! At Rattlesnake Canyon, we were the only two people on our tour. During the entire time we were in the canyon, we encountered only two other people. Then came Owl Slot Canyon. This canyon is home to a pair of great horned owls, and we were incredibly fortunate to see both of them high in the sandstone walls. Our Native American guide also made this experience especially meaningful, sharing information about the area as well as stories about her ancestors and their connection to this land.

But our Page adventure didn’t stop with the canyons. We also spent time around Lake Powell, where the dramatically lower water level was impossible to ignore. The changing shoreline is a powerful reminder of how much this landscape can change—and of the important role Lake Powell plays in the Southwest’s water and power systems. And of course, we couldn’t leave Page without another round of disc golf at Red Mesa Rim, surrounded by spectacular red-rock scenery and views toward Navajo Mountain and Tower Butte.
