Our Search for Wild Horses

Yesterday we headed out very early in search of wild horses at Salt Creek River near Lost Dutchman State Park.  We were prepared to  fail as we took fishing equipment as well as art work to spend the day at the river.   There are about 5 areas of Salt Creek that you can get to the river to see the horses.  We started at Granite Reef Recreation area...nothing but horse poop!  We continued to Coon Bluff Recreation area...no horses but plenty of horse poop.  So we decided to try fishing...first we fly fished, great fun, but no fish and…

Goblin Valley State Park – Wow!

Goblin Valley was founded in the 1920's by cowboys searching for an alternative route between Green River and Cainsville. They came to a vantage point that overlooked the valley and were awed by the view of 5 buttes and a valley of strange shaped rock formations surrounded by a wall of cliffs.  They named the area Mushroom Valley.  In 1964 the state of Utah acquired the land and renamed the area, Goblin Valley State Park!We were amazed when we saw the valley; the shapes are truly spooky!  The park allows visitors to hike among the goblins in the valley and…

Utah off road adventure

Yesterday was a true gift.  We wanted to stay at Goosenecks State Park near Mexican Hat, UT but because there were no reservations, we never thought we would secure a site. We got here about noon and when we pulled up to the gate we saw sites empty on the cliff edge!  The ranger gave us some excellent advice on scenic and challenging drives.  The first one was a 3 mile dirt road to the top of a mesa!  The caution signs stated 10% grade, NO RVs or Trailers....well we saw both as we climbed the 3 miles, CRAZY!  We…

Wines of San Juan, NM (Harvest Hosts)

Arrived at Wines of San Juan a member of Harvest Hosts.  As we drove in were greeted by peacocks!  Once parked we hurried to have a wine tasting!  We settled on their 2014 Tribulation Reserve, a dry red; the grapes were grown on the property and produced on the property.   The vineyard is delightful with eclectic furnishings...we met one of the owners...it has been a super experience!   The vineyard is located in the San Juan River Valley and they have won international awards for wine making.  We flew the drone for some overhead pictures!  Tomorrow we are heading…
