Alcoholic Pass: Our most challenging hike in Borrego Springs!

This week we take you on our most challenging hike in Anza Borrego State Park, Alcoholic Pass! This is a 2-4 mile hike depending on how far you go with a 740’ elevation gain. This hike is rocky and steep but had stunning views of the Borrego Valley and Coyote Canyon!

The trail was originally used by Cahullia people as a shortcut between Coyote Canyon and their village near Clark Dry Lake.  The women used this route to carry heavy loads of seeds, buds, and blossoms that they harvested in Desert Gardens and the men used this trail to get to the top of the mountain ridge where they would hunt for large game, like sheep and deer.

We have a greater admiration for the Cahullia people.  We couldn’t imagine hiking this trail on a routine basis, especially in moccasins!  We were there to take in the views and they were spectacular!

This is a must see & do in Anza Borrego State Park!
