Yosemite in the spring! And a water rescue!

To beat the crowds we visited Yosemite National Park this spring. We were pleasantly surprised to see rushing waterfalls, spring flowers and very pleasant temperatures!There were some roads closed from winter and the Mariposa Grove was closed due to an unexpected storm in January that produced 70-100mph winds. With that storm, the park lost 25 mature giant sequoias! The storm damaged trails, boardwalks and other facilities in the Mariposa Grove area. The park is still cleaning up from that wind event.El Capitan draws rock climbers so bold to climb a 3000’ granite wall and many even sleep in climbing tents…

After leaving the California Coast we headed East to Sequoia National Park. The park suffered last year from the KNP Complex Fire and many areas were closed for months. The firefighters actually wrapped General Sherman and many other sequoias with aluminum fire resistant blankets to protect them from the fires. As many as 2,300 giant sequoias burned to death or are expected to die as a result from the fire. This fire was caused by a severe lightning storm. We left Malibu and drove 2 hours North to Morro Bay known for Morro Rock an ancient Volcanic plug at the entrance of the harbor. Morro Rock is one of nine in a line of similar plugs called the nine sisters. The town is a very cute fishing town with many restaurants and shops along the harbor. Four Days in the Malibu Beach Area!

After San Diego we headed North to Malibu Beach. We read about an RV park that overlooked the Pacific and made reservations months ago. Our site was right on a bluff that had sweeping views of the ocean…we could hear the pounding surf all day and night! Our first adventure was the Ciscos Whale Watch…we left from Oxnard…we had the potential to see humpback whales and migrating gray whales…we saw two water spouts far in the distance but did not see the actual whales. 🙁 I am not going to give away the spectacular gift we saw on our cruise…you…
